Supporting employees to give up smoking

While the smoke-free legislation will make it against the law to smoke in enclosed workplaces and public places, employers can still help their employees to quit by providing information and encouragement.

Employers who help their employees to quit can benefit from increased productivity, better staff morale and less absence due to sickness.

Employers can help employees to quit by offering access to written information, advice from an occupational health worker or via a helpline.

Smokers can also call the Smokers’ Helpline free on 0800 85 85 85 for friendly help and advice on stopping smoking.
