Why give up?

Stopping smoking is difficult, and it can help to remind yourself just why you want to quit. Try to remember that:

Smoking is deadly

Smoking dramatically increases your risk of heart disease, lung cancer, strokes and many other health problems. One in two smokers will die as a result of smoking.

Smoking is expensive

Currently, smoking twenty cigarettes a day for a year can cost over £2000. The government is committed to continuing to increase the tax on tobacco every year, so this cost is set to rise higher and higher.

Smoking harms those around you

Second-hand smoke has short-term effects which can be irritating, and long-term effects that are much more dangerous. Children are especially at risk because their lungs are smaller and their bodies are still developing. Click here for more information on the health effects of second-hand smoking.
